The Free Favors of God

When Jesus went into His time of temptation in the wilderness, He was there to seek the direction for His life.  He was baptized by John, endorsed by His Father who said, “Thou art my beloved Son, in thee I am well pleased.” Then the Holy Spirit descended upon Him.  Notice, the Holy Spirit descended upon Him, not in Him.

Jesus was still operating in the Old Testament as a prophet, priest and a king.  The Holy Spirit would descend upon men in those offices.  However in the wilderness Jesus was able to defeat Satan in His flesh and be totally obedient to His Father’s calling.

Luke 4: 14, Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit.  The Holy Spirit now had total control of Jesus, as Jesus proved His total submission to His Father.

Jesus then explained the purpose of the Holy Spirit in His life, in Luke  4: 18, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because He hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the broken hearted;, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.

Vs. 19 “To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.”

I love the translation in the Amplified Bible of vs. 19, “To proclaim the accepted and acceptable year of the Lord, (the day when salvation and the free favors of God profusely abound.”)

Jesus not only healed the sick and proclaimed the gospel or good news of His coming to the people, He also came to proclaim something incredible.  It is so important that we understand the immensity of what He came to proclaim.

He came to declare that salvation is available to all and that the free favors of God profusely abound.

By the death and resurrection of the Lord, the penalty for our sinful nature has been paid.  By Jesus’s sacrifice, salvation, which includes eternal life, the right to an intimate relationship with God, the right to receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, healing, health, prosperity and right standing with God, is ours.

Not only all those wonderful things but the free favors of God can profusely abound in our lives.  What are those free favors of God?  Study the Word of God and you will find the many rights, privileges, blessings and promises of God that are yours through faith in what Jesus Christ did on the cross.

They profusely abound.  But a lack of knowledge of what they are is what causes so many Christians to miss out on the abundant life promised by Jesus in John 10: 10

It is so sad that too many believers cannot enjoy what Jesus died to give them.  Jesus proclaimed this great salvation and proclaimed the many free favors of God which are described in the Word of God.

Don’t miss out because of ignorance.  Seek and you shall find what all those free favors are.
