The Desires Of Your Heart

Psalm 37:4 “Delight thyself also in the Lord; and He will give thee the desires of thine heart.”

This scripture is a promise with a condition.  If we delight ourselves in the Lord, God will give us the desires of our heart.  That sounds so great. Whatever I want God will give it to me.

I often joke about this scripture and say, Lord thank you for my antique Corvette.  However that is not what it means.

The word, delight, is the Hebrew word, anag, which is defined as being soft or pliable.  Before we can expect what this scripture promises we need to be soft and pliable to God.

Since we are soft and pliable to God, we will be open to His Word, to what God considers right and what He considers wrong, therefore the desires of our hearts will be in agreement with His Word.

The Amplified translation says that God will give us the secret petitions of our hearts.  Those petitions will be the desires that are Gods desires.  How can you know the desires of God if you do not study His Word to find our what His desires are for your life?

When I read the Bible I see many promises, provisions, blessings and benefits that God has provided for us.  Our secret petitions to God should be that all those things become a reality in my life

I love the next verse: Psalm 37:5 (amplified) “Commit your way to the Lord (roll and repose each care of your load on Him). Trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) also in Him and He will bring it to pass.”

This is no longer about my selfish wants or desires, it is about wanting what God wants in my life.

The Passion translation says, “Find your delight and true pleasure in Yahwah, and He will give you what you desire the most.”

The question is, what do you desire the most.  If we are true believers I desire what Paul prayed.

Colossians 1:8 “ For this cause we also since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you and to desire that you might be filled with knowledge of His will  in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.”

I Timothy 2:4 “who will have all men to be saved and to come into the knowledge of the truth.”

If we are truly soft and pliable in the hands of God, then our desire should be what God desires.

Then it will be God’s desire to bless us with all His word promises, in Jesus’ Name.
